General information and local scenery at Mosvold hospital

Mosvold is situated on top of the spectacular Lebombo Mountains, near the Swazi border, commanding a view of the coastal plain as far as the coastal dunes to the East and the bowl and mountains of Swaziland to the west. It is near The Ndumo and Tembe Elephant Park reserves and within easy reach of Kosi Bay, Sodwana Bay and Ponta d’Ourro in Mozambique. The Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Reserve and St Lucia are within two and a half hours drive. Road improvements have meant that Durban is now only four hours drive.

A shopping centre is about 500m away from the hospital with a well-stocked Spar supermarket.

While malaria epidemics have been common in recent years, cases amongst hospital residents have been rare even in the middle of the worst epidemics, as the hospital is on high ground. One should be aware of malaria during wet summer months, but precautions against mosquito bites are the most important protective measure needed. Car crashes are a much greater risk to health amongst hospital staff than malaria.
