Directions to Mseleni hospital
Access from overseas is best achieved by flying to Johannesburg, then getting
an internal flight to Durban. There is a minibus taxi service direct from Durban
to Mbazwana, where you can get a taxi to the hospital. This is a long journey of
370km, so it is advisable to arrive in Durban in the morning, otherwise you will
have to stay in Durban for the night. However, there are also minibus taxis from
Johannesburg straight to Mbazwana; they normally depart in the morning once a
day, but that could be 8 to 10 hours journey.
If you are driving from either Durban or Johannesburg, here are directions
below.
Driving From Durban:
- Take the N2 northbound out of Durban towards Stanger
- Continue along the N2 for approximately 300km past Stanger, Empangeni and
Mtubatuba. (Note: there are tolls along this road)
- Take the turning off the N2 for Hluhluwe
- At the end of the off ramp turn right, following the signs for Sodwana Bay
- Follow the road through Hluhluwe, pass three traffic road circles (the Engine
garage, KFC restaurant, SPAR & Shoprite store all on your left hand side)
- At the 4th traffic road circle do not make round about nor crossing the circle
but turn left
- Drive 1km along this road turn right across a railway line, following the
signs for Sodwana Bay R22 Road
- Follow this road all the way to Mbazwana (Note: there are many speed humps),
be careful of dogs and cattles especially when driving during night
- At Mbazwana there are three traffic road circles. Drive straight on these
circles heading to Mseleni area.
- 15km along this road there is a green road sign for Mseleni turning right. Do
not follow this sign, but continue for another 3km until you see a brown sign
for Mseleni Hospital.
- Turn right at this junction and continue about 3km to the end of the road up
the hill, the main entrance is right there.
- Welcome to Mseleni Hospital.
Driving From Johannesburg
- Take the N11 southbound out of Johannesburg to Durban
- On about 30 – 40km out of Jorburg exit left with Bethal road
- Travel to Bethal; Ermelo; Piet Retief and Pongola. Follow the road to Mkuze for 50km.
- Before you get to Mkuze, turn left to Jozini. Travel through Jozini Town and
follow the signs to Sodwana Bay and/ or Mbazwana. As you follow that road it
becomes a gravel road.
- Travel on that gravel road until you get to a T-junction with a directional
board pointing Ubombo for right and Mbazwana/Sodwana for left.
- Turn left on that junction and travel straight with that gravel road until you
get to a Y-junction pointing Mbazwana/Sodwana on your right and Phelandaba on
your left.
- Take Phelandaba for left on this Y-junction, shortly after taking Phelandaba
route, there is another small road from left, DO NOT take that road, go
straight.
- As you travel on that gravel road you finally reach a STOP sign on a
T-Junction where the gravel road joins a tarred named R22.
- On this junction the directional sign points Right for Sodwana Bay/Mbazwana
and Left for KwaNgwanase.
- Turn left for KwaNgwanase.
- Shortly after you enter that road (R22), there is a green road sign for
Mseleni turning right. Do not follow this sign, but continue for another 3km
until you see a brown sign for Mseleni Hospital.
- Turn right at this junction and continue about 3km to the end of the road up
the hill, the main entrance is right there.
- Welcome to Mseleni Hospital.
