Archive of activities at Addington hospital

Established in the year 2000, Sinothando center provides an opportunity for clients to test for HIV and get information about protecting themselves from HIV and Aids on a more personal level. The center is equipped with HIV rapid tests with results obtainable immediately after testing. In knowing their status, clients are then able to take measures to decrease risks of getting infected and / or re-infected, or infecting others.

This center allows a clear and correct referral to other services in the hospital, such as ARV roll –out site, namely, Ikusasa. The center also provides referral outside the hospital for further support and management of opportunistic infections, where these are present. This amount of work is made possible by dedicated staff, who tirelessly develop and maintain contacts with network partners in the field of prevention and management of such infections.
The center is not only of benefit to patients, it also benefits members of staff as they receive training on issues related to HIV and Aids.

Accreditation - the concept
Health Service Accreditation is a certification indicating that a health service complies with nationally agreed standards for Health Services. This indicates that a particular facility has voluntarily sought to be evaluated.”

Addington Hospital has a long history with Accreditation. In fact, for those who don’t already know, Addington Hospital was the first public sector hospital to receive accreditation status. This proud moment took place on the 21st of November 1997.

We re-entered the two year process in 2003, and in 2005 we were proud to have been awarded for the second time around this highly acclaimed COHSASA status. Each service element’s evaluation was based on a strict set of guidelines, all designed to achieve quality. It has been hard work, co-operation, teamwork, and an intense drive amongst staff to improve the service standards. This accreditation therefore, meant that we have not only maintained our service standards, but that we have improved from level 2 to level 6 of the programme. This award also meant that services offered in this hospital are at nationally agreed standards. We now continue to strive for quality, and the dedication of all our staff and commitment to maintain our service standards guide us in the provision of quality care to our patients. We carry this status knowing very well that recognition is wonderful, but that what is more important is a benchmark that really shows that we are making a difference in the lives of the patients that walk in and out of our hospital.

We congratulate all staff for the pursuit of excellence.

A pastor, a DJ and a husband behind the Micro( Addington's Hospital Radio )
The Addington’s AFM went as far as Zimbabwe in search of world class DJ Harry Kubie (31), to continue his work as both a sound engineer and DJ here at home. Harry, an Assistant pastor at Simunye Gospel Assembly, a husband to Shenal Kubie, a guitarist, a vocalist and a drum player dedicated his entire life to gospel music, yet has undying love for Rock ‘N Roll. The new DJ who started on the 1st March 2004, holds a Diploma in Sound Engineer from the Zimbabwe College of Music. He is currently working on radio talk shows with health related themes which he describes as his “line of work.” Harry’s shows start from 13h00 to 15h00 pm. Undoubtedly, Harry’s work as a DJ, and a sound engineer will help nurture talent of young musicians as he plans to promote them.
