Opening of two new Satellite pharmacies

A big applause for Addington Hospital-Dr ML Mhlongo
The official opening of two new Satellite pharmacies a remarkable move by Addington

The 5th September 2005 was the official opening of Satellite Pharmacies for Addington Hospital, and this came as a relief to many patients. The event also marked Addington’s commitment to service optimization for patients. We have reinforced our commitment stated in our mission statement to provide a quality patient focused health care.

Our collective efforts to seek answers to a question, “How can we continue to make things better for our patients”, are a result of this initiative. The initiative has a direct impact on our customers, as many have expressed their appreciation for this move. We have taken head on two challenges. (1) Congestion of our main pharmacy, which was a cause of frustration for patients due to long waiting time for medicine, (2) Dispense medicine within the time limit set out by our patients despite the growing number of patients accessing our pharmacy.

As we speak, the average waiting time for Children’s Outpatient (CHOPD) is 7 minutes, Poly clinic / MOPD Satellite pharmacy is 13 minutes.

Cutting the ribbon is Dr M. L Mhlongo, General Manager KZN Health Dept with Mrs Chinniah, the Nursing Manager; Mr Pretorius, the Finance and Systems Manager; Ms S Ishwar, the Pharmacy Manager; Mr Shabalala the Head Pharmaceutical Services eThekwini District; Rev Cele and Dr D.K Naidoo, the Medical Manager.

We will continue to seek ways to improve our service baseline, so we meet patients’ needs beyond their expectations. Many will agree that this is not an easy task, but our emphasis on excellence allows us to find innovative ways to deal with what many view as the, “most difficult challenge”. Dr M.L. Mhlongo, the General Manager KZN Health, officially opened the Satellite pharmacies. “We need to share this moment with every member of staff and the department”, he said. Dr Mhlongo congratulated Addington Hospital for having successfully translated its vision into strategy, and ultimately into action. Listing a number of achievements by Addington, Dr Mhlongo also acknowledged that there are times when the authorities get “hard on Addington”, but also re -assured that “it is not really that we do not acknowledge” the good work done by Addington Hospital. He encouraged the hospital to enhance its open communication with other stakeholders, so they too are informed of the work that is being done. What has been achieved by Addington hospital is also seen as fulfillment of the KZN Health MEC’s commitment, made during her budget speech to minimize patient waiting time for medicine. Our reputation for setting trends continues, and an unwavering support for such a significant move, is being received from all corners.

Present during the event was the ever-entertaining eThekwini District Manager, Mr. Msiza. It is a major milestone for all of us at Addington hospital, to be recognized for the work that we do. We have committed ourselves to fly to higher grounds, and to improve on every area to achieve the most for our customers.
