Neonatal Experiential Learning Site (NELS)

The Neonatal Experiential Learning Site (NELS) is a new programme established to support neonatal care in throughout Area 2.

The site provides medical and nursing staff from peripheral hospitals with an opportunity to learn how to care for newborn babies through a 2 week supervised programme in the neonatal nurseries in Pietermaritzburg.

As part of this programme participants receive a preparatory visit from the programme coordinator, a resource package and follow up visits and telephonic support after the experience to assist them in implementing their new knowledge in their own hospitals.
