The Department of Paediatrics is committed to improving the quality of
care that children receive in our health service, and to supporting health
workers looking after them. This commitment is realised in part through
the paediatric outreach programme. This programme involves monthly visits
by senior Paediatric staff to all district hospitals in our drainage area,
transport being provided by the Air Mercy Service.
The objectives of the outreach visits are:
- 1) To provide a clinical consultant service (outpatients, inpatients, nursery)
- 2) To implement the record keeping system (in this package)
- 3) To insist on the adherence to departmental clinical guidelines , and to use the guidelines as a teaching aid (in this package)
- 4) To encourage neonatal and paediatric mortality reviews as the quality improvement strategy (in this package)
To assist with meeting these objectives, the recommended structure for visits is provided, as well as a monthly visit summary sheet.
