To show that the KZN
Department of Health ‘means business’ in the real sense of the
words, some co-operatives have been awarded tenders by the
department. The majority of these co-operatives are managed and
run by women and some are from rural areas.
For many members of the co-operatives the groups are not just
about putting their talents, like sewing, to good use, but also
a means of putting food on the tables of their families. The
department has committed R5.1 million towards issuing the
tenders to successful co-operatives
