Edendale hospital winter school holiday MMC Camp

Edendale hospital with the support of the UMgungundlovu Heath District under the stewardship of Mrs. May Zuma-Mkhonza embarked on a Winter School Holidays MMC Campaign which targeted school boys ranging from the age of 15 years and above to take part in the MMC Winter Camp at the Plessislaer FET college.

The camp was held over 2 days on the 28th and 29th June 2011 during which 216 circumcision were performed successfully and without any medical complications.

During the opening of the camp, the boys were addressed by the Local Traditional Leader, Inkosi Zondi on a number of issues and challenges which affect young people especially young males such as Behaviour change, HIV/Aids and Manhood.

Participants in the Camp were recruited from local High Schools: Amakholwa, Georgetown, Sbongudunga, Mtholangqondo and from Impendle Area. It was also noted that some of the boys were accompanied by their parents, which reflects an interest amongst communities to have their children circumcised

The District Manager, Mrs. Mkhonza- Zuma praised and commended the staff who were part of the Project for their hard work, dedication and perseverance as their hours of work were overstretched in order to see the project to a successful completion.
