Environmental Health Services
Goals and Objectives
- To facilitate the evaluation and monitoring of the
standard of water quality, sanitation and health care risk
waste management and disposal for the people of
KwaZulu-Natal;
- To develop strategies to capacitate Health officials to
impart knowledge to the persons of KwaZulu-Natal in order to
empower them to be responsible for their own health and
quality of life;
- To coordinate and manage the implementation of a Food
Monitoring System that will ensure that all Domestic and
Imported Foodstuffs comply with the provision of all
applicable legislation;
- To coordinate the rendering of a comprehensive Port
Health Service in terms of applicable Legislation at all
Points of Entry into the Province of KwaZulu-Natal
- To reduce morbidity and mortality from Malaria and to
strengthen and improve Environmental Health Information
System.
Objectives
- To facilitate and support all the Districts in
developing and implementing a programme for conducting
community surveys, inspections of generators of Health Care
Risk waste and water quality monitoring;
- To facilitate participation of all Public hospitals in
the Waste Management and disposal contract;
- To strengthen the capacity in health and hygiene
education for Environmental Health Services in Districts;
- Strengthen coordination of the implementation of the
Food Monitoring Programme;
- To improve the quality of service rendering for Port
Health services in the Province;
- To further reduce the prevalence and incidence of
Malaria morbidity and monitoring by 20% and 5% respectively;
- To finalize the improved Environmental Health
Information System
