Estcourt wins Bronze Premier's Service Excellence Award

In order to be the best you have to compete with the best”, said the Programme Director Mr Brian Zuma during the Premier’s Service Excellence award that was held at the Durban city hall on the 20 of November 2006. The Programme commenced at about 19h00 pm.

Prior to the arrival of the Honourable Premier Sbusiso Ndebele and the MEC’s, the atmosphere was so tense in such a way that the facial expression of people was reflecting the mood that was prevailing on that night. It was a Do or  die situation (ZINDALA ZOMBILI MFONDINI, UWAFAWAFA) Indeed it was the survival of the fittest.

The programme director Mr Brian Mchunu put it clear that all those institutions which managed to reach this stage or shortlisted did remarkably well in terms of service delivery.

The outgoing Director General Professor Mandlakayise Mchunu introduced the Honourable Premier Sbusiso J. Ndebele who firstly thanked the sponsors of this award, namely, PriceWaterHouseCoopers which was represented by Judge T. Mtshali, Standard Bank represented by Mr D. Naidoo and the City Press for sponsoring this service excellence award and also congratulated the finalists.

The Premier emphasized the fact that this event is not about winning the trophies but it is about reflecting what the institutions have been doing in order to better the lives of the citizens of this province and also urged all the finalists to sustain their service standard. The Premier reminded the house that these principles of Batho Pele are in line with freedom charter that was adopted by the ruling party in Kliptown on 26 June 1955. He also told the audience the KZN province is the first one amongst nine provinces of this country to introduce the citizens charter on 15 November 2005.

Estcourt hospital is one of those institutions which managed to be one of the finalists. “Even though we did not manage to be the gold recipient but we are still proud of ourselves to be the bronze recipients on our first attempts to enter this award, that means we are on the right track,” says the hospital manager Mr B.J.Vilakazi.
