The main aim of the event was to teach the public especially the mothers on how to identify the abused child. The inpatient children were also taught on how to safeguard themselves from strangers as well as report any suspicious behavior by members of their families and the society at large. The children were also taught not to allow anybody to touch their private parts except their mothers. The hospital management together with some hospital employees as well as the hospital choir visited the paediatric wards, baby clinics and OPD to teach the Public about this evil.

The hospital choir provided some entertainment for the day. Sister N Sithole was engineering the entire educational programme to the public. Some gifts and balloons were handed out to the children. The candle lighting ceremony was also held to remember children who died due to the  HIV and AIDS pandemic and a moment of silence was observed.

The entire event was initiated in order to support the vision of the provincial and national Government with regards to eradicating child abuse within our community.

Ronell Mungaroo the editor of the local newspaper ( Estcourt and Midlands Newspaper) was invited to cover the event in order to disseminate the message to the public in general.

It is the vision of the Hospital to support all Health Educational Programmes in order to empower our community and to equip them with necessary tools to face any challenges in life.

The main theme of the event was “let’s protect our children” meaning Asivikele Abantwana Bethu.
