GJ Crookes finance department comes top during quality day celebration at the hospital

GJ Crookes Finance department scooped position number one in the Hospital’s Quality Day celebration on the 5th of December 2012.  The department was amongst ten departments who competed for top position during a presentation of Quality Improvement Plans (QIP).  The departments showcased graphical and numerical evidence of improvements of their varied projects from January till November this year.

The hospital’s Finance department received top position for improvements on a QIP aimed at progressing with paying suppliers within 30 days; before they started the QIP the department had a huge backlog of overdue payments and they are now in a place where they deal with current payments.  Runners up were the Theatre department who received second position and the Reception department who received third position.  All QIPs were measured using the SMART Specific Measurable Achievable Reliable and with a Timeframe guideline.

With absenteeism rates observed to be increasing during the past year, Management decided to do a survey and project on non-absenteeism from January this year.  The Female Surgical Ward received recognition for a Nursing department with less absenteeism rate in the whole hospital.

Other departments were recognized for the following:

- Female Medical Ward for department complimented the most by the public

- Eight departments were recognized as most compliant with waste management, an essential component of any health institution.

- Eight departments (four clinical and four non-clinical) were awarded for consistently maintaining infection control and prevention standards throughout the year

- Staff members who have been in the Public Service for more than 20 years were recognized for long service; including a special award for Rosemary Weldon who has been in the hospital for 43 years.

Dr Pria Pundit, a guest speaker from an NGO called Broadreach emphasized that quality should be measured and action plans followed.  Lots of quality improvement projects in a hospital setting must be implemented and monitored.  Without good quality, nothing good can come out of life. Board members Rev. CMK Dlamini and Mr FJ Lemmer were amongst the guests at the function.
