Take a girl child to work campaign
| Grey’s Hospital in partnership with the
office of the Status of Women in the Premier’s Office took part in the
Cell C’s Take a Girl Child to Work Initiative, which was held on
Thursday, 25 May 2006. Ten Schoolgirls between the ages of 14 to 15 from rural schools in the Umzinyathi district were attached to a staff member for the rest of the day. The campaign was designed to expose school girls to what really goes on in a hospital setting and to show them the value for their education whilst giving them the opportunity to discuss their views on how they envision their future. The day began with a tour of the hospital which included a DVD giving them a insight into the career that they can pursue in the health sector, after the tour the girls were then sent to their respective departments. One got to be the Hospital Manager for the day and attended meetings. The Girls had a lot to ask and were enthusiastic to learn more about the departments they were heading on the day. By the end of the
day the girls had learned as much as they can on the management of the
hospital and hopefully the exposure they got inspired them to chart a
career path of their own. Girls were excited with the tokens from the
department of health and the lunch packs provided by the Office of the
Status of Women. |
