King Edward VIII Hospital is the second largest hospital in South Africa. With 13 000 deliveries per annum, King Edward VIII Hospital has a bed status of 1 300 with about 3000 out patients a day.

The hospital has a staff establishment of 3 300 and provides a tertiary service for the entire province of KZN with a population of approximately 5 million, part of Mpumalanga and Eastern Cape provinces. King Edward is also the main teaching hospital for the University of Natal’s Nelson R Mandela Medical School.
