King Edward VIII hospital is the second largest hospital in the Southern hemisphere, providing regional and tertiary services to the whole of KZN and Eastern Cape. King Edward VIII is a 922 bedded hospital with +/-360 000 out patients. King Edward VIII is a teaching hospital for the University of KwaZulu Natal’s Nelson R Mandela School of Medicine and has a Nursing College attached to it with these specialties:
- Orthopeadics
- ICU/Critical Care
- Pediatric
- Advance Midwifery
Mission To provide a coordinated, integrated and sustainable health service within the district health system through:

Edward VIII hospital partnership with Carte Blanche " Making a Difference"
In July 2007 the hospital participated in a Carte Blanche project
of “Making a Difference” where the show was celebrating their 20th
birthday, and wanted to give back to Neonatal services.
