KwaZulu-Natal 2010-2011 Premier's Service Excellence Awards:
Department of Health scoops a gold award!!

We as Department of Health have done it once again! This time it is Manguzi Hospital who has won the Golden Award. In 2005 the Department of Health, through Grey's Hospital  won the same.

Through sheer dedication, compassion and hard work this hospital has put us, as DOH, on the map by winning 2010/2011 Premier’s Service Excellence Gold Award. The accolade is no sheer coincidence. This hospital has consistently displayed and demonstrated an attitude of tenacity to achieve the required best practice standards according to Batho Pele Principles, Patients’ Rights, Citizens’ and Service Commitment Charter.

The Team Leader for this hospital is Dr S Vumase, a transformational leader and a hands-on change agent in the true sense of the word. The qualities of the winning team are commitment and active participation in all projects and activities of the hospital. They continuously approach customer satisfaction with passion. The success of Manguzi Hospital emanates from the institutionalised culture of collaboration amongst key stakeholders.

The role players are our Political Principals, Senior Management Team, all levels of the DOH, and other governmental departments. The Non-Governmental Organisations as well as Civil Society have also contributed a huge part in the above collaborative process.

We congratulate all the facilities that participated in the Premier’s Service Excellence Awards. We are encouraging all to develop specific, measurable Service Development Improvement Plans. These will assist them to develop realistic and time-bound service standards for all units within their facilities. More critical in all the above-mentioned ventures; is to ensure that our people are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve as citizens of this country and our customers in health care. It is true that health services exist for this function.

We also acknowledge the numerous challenges that face healthcare delivery. Nevertheless, Manguzi Hospital has demonstrated that it is possible to achieve the high standards within the available limited resource envelope.
