Media Invitation : Spotlight on women as KZN Dept of Health commemorates World Diabetes Day

Media Invitation

Non-communicable diseases such as Diabetes kill millions of people worldwide, and have reached epidemic proportions in South Africa and worldwide.

In fact, diabetes mellitus was the second leading cause of death in the country, according to a 2013 Statistics South Africa report. Yet, diseases like Diabetes could be significantly reduced, with millions of lives saved through the reduction of risk factors, early detection and timely treatment.

In a bid to create more awareness about the prevention and/or management of Diabetes, KZN Health MEC Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, in conjunction with the Bongi Ngema-Zuma Foundation, will tomorrow (14 November 2017) hold a Community Outreach Programme at Sithobelumthetho, at Amajuba District (Newcastle).

World Diabetes Day 2017 will take place under the theme "Women and Diabetes - Our right to a healthy future."

It will be preceded by a morning walk to create awareness, as well as aerobic exercises in which members of the community are welcome to participate.

Details of the event are as follows:

  • Event: World Diabetes Day
  • Date: 14 November 2017
  • Venue: Sithobelumthetho
