KZN Health MEC thanks donor for new mobile clinic for Hlabisa community

KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health MEC, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, has expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Africa Health Research Institute (AHRI) for its donation of two brand new mobile clinics, each worth a quarter of a million rand.

The donation will go a long way to improve access to primary healthcare services for communities at Hlabisa and surrounding areas.

The AHRI is one of South Africa’s largest independent, interdisciplinary research institutes. It aims to become a source of fundamental discoveries into the susceptibility, transmission and cure of HIV and TB and related diseases, seeking ways to improve diagnosis, prevention and treatment.

An elated MEC Dhlomo said: "I would like to extend my most sincerest thanks and appreciation to the organisation for joining forces with the Department of Health in fighting diseases in KwaZulu-Natal. These mobile clinics will add to the existing fleet to ensure that primary healthcare is delivered to even those who live in remote areas. Despite our best efforts the scarcity of resources, vastness of our province and demand for healthcare services means that we are not always able to build enough clinics to cover the entire province. So, a donation such as this one strengthens our capacity and reach, which means that more people will now have access to primary healthcare, which is an extremely important thing. This is nothing short of a Godly deed as it literally means that people’s ailments will be detected early, so that we can intervene and heal people early enough. Lives will be saved, and to us, that means everything. So, we greatly appreciate what the AHRI has done.
