To promote optimal occupational therapy services for the people of KZN and to be a support structure for therapists in the KZN
Department of Health.
Mission
We, the Occupational therapists of KZN are committed to rendering service excellence to patients in all regions, through effective
communication with each other and other service providers.
Objectives
- To ensure effective networking by communicating with:
- Programme managers for directives, guidance and feedback into relevant occupational therapy matters.
- Regional occupational therapists at various levels i.e. community, district, secondary and tertiary for a link in services.
- Non- profitable organizations for effective referrals and patient care support.
- Specialist Occupational therapy interest groups e.g. NDT, SASHT, etc. for education, support and specialization.
- Private practitioners, educational organizations and institutions.
- OTASA
- Sub interest groups formed by the forum for effective services e.g. Vocational interest group, midlevel worker interest group, etc.
- To ensure quality services by supporting continuing professional development programmes:
- Organisation and provision of continuing professional development programmes as indicated by the needs of the forum.
- To notify/ inform therapists of congresses, workshops, seminars and courses.
- To encourage OT, OTA, OTT participation in all continuing professional development programmes.
- To encourage research and study that will make an impact on the burden of disease and injury.
- To ensure that Occupational therapy needs of the community are met optimally by supporting outreach programmes, community information sharing and
networking with various stakeholders
- To participate in all transformation and Health initiatives related to Occupational therapy:
- Assisting with review and/ or development of policies related to the profession of Occupational therapy.
- Developing guidelines and procedures for health initiatives as requested by the rehabilitation programme.
- Participating in meetings/ task teams on topics relevant to the practice of occupational therapy in the health sector.
- Contributing to the profession by expert opinion with respect to human resources, infrastructure, quality care, equipment and monitoring processes

- To encourage professional support to Occupational therapists by:
- District feedback
- By providing an ethical advisory structure
- To act as a support structure e.g. clinical, professional, mentoring, etc.
- Skills sharing and mentoring
- Quality Improvement dissemination
