Rabies is a contagious viral disease spread by infected animals. It is a zoonotic disease i.e. a disease which can be transmitted from animals to people. Rabies is a dreaded disease of humans and warm-blooded vertebrates, which is transmitted by the bite of an infected animal, most commonly dogs. The virus is present in the saliva of an infected person or animal. Most cases involved patients in whom treatment was delayed, or who failed to receive immunoglobin or the full course of the vaccine, or who had underlying diseases.
