    Mobile Trauma Crisis Centre

The mobile Crisis Centre was installed on the hospital premises on 8 May 2001.

The center deals with cases of a sensitive and intensely personal nature
(E.g. sexual assaults in adults and children and cases of domestic violence.) the aim is to provide the correct environment to optimize patient co-operation and protect the privacy and confidentiality rights of the victims.

    Coronary Care Unit

    The
Coronary Care Unit has become a major referral center for patients presenting with acute coronary syndromes from the Durban Metropolitan and surrounding areas. The 7-bedded unit is fully modernized and computerized.

In addition to managing patients with acute infarct and unstable angina the unit is fully geared to assess patients at risk for developing both ventricular and supra ventricular tachy arrhythmias
using a variety of non invasive techniques.

A new concept of monitoring patient’s haemodynamic parameters using BIO TECT ICG sensors has been recently introduced. The unit is one of the first in the country to utilize the Cardio Dynamics machine. In addition we have a fully operational echocardiography, 24-hour halter analysis, late potential analysis and exercise stress test service available.

The unit has the largest number of cardiac rehabilitation patients in the country, in existence for 15 years, run by a team of doctors and physiotherapist. Patients have organized themselves into a club, popularly known as the Happy Hearts Club.

The team extends its services beyond the acute management of services to include, rehabilitation, life style modification and the reintroduction into the community
