Umgeni In Action For Change
Through ABET (Adult Basic Education and Training) Umgeni Hospital has empowered its staff with information and skills that will make them the effective agents of government delivery.

This emanates from the classes that have been conducted at Umgeni Hospital since 2001, which has seen more than 17 employees obtaining certificates. These certificates are accredited by the National Qualifications Framework (NQF), which entitles the employees to apply for jobs not only in their individual departments but also in other departments in the public sector. The people who are paddling the boat are Matron T Sosibo (Coordinator), Mrs. C Klopman and Mr. D Mthethwa (tutors)

The employees are not only exposed to life skills orientation but also to entrepreneurship skills orientation which as a result can see them starting their own businesses when they retire and hopefully get the chance to be awarded government tenders.

The government’s initiative to ensure that the majority of the public servants are able to read, write and speak basic English is proving to be exceptionally fruitful.

It is however imperative for the government to continuously support such initiatives because they fight illiteracy, poverty and unemployment in our society and Umgeni Hospital will always support initiatives that will bring positive changes in peoples lives.

We as the nation should support our parents, sisters, brothers, and friends who participate in these classes for the good of our nation.
