Umgeni Empowers Women
| K and N Contractors is a female owned company that started its operations in
March 2004. The company is owned by three young ladies Ms Ntombi Masinga, Ms
Thokozani Dlamini and Ms Dudu Mchunu who all hail from different parts of KZN
Midlands. The prime services rendered by the company are construction work, grounds maintenance and cleaning of wards. “We would like to form a bigger company that will focus on women empowerment hopefully expanding to other provinces” says Thokozani Dlamini.

| Regarding the selection of candidates, they employ the
previously disadvantaged and needy people of which is good for poverty
alleviation and job creation.
It took them months of applying for tenders at other institutions and eventually Umgeni Hospital with their belief that community development, gender equality
must be broad based awarded the contract to this enterprise. “For us as a nation, to realize the dream of a united, non-racial and non sexiest society we have to succeed with the programme of the empowerment of women…….”The Presidency, 17 February 2005 It is of paramount importance that other institutions follow in the footsteps of Umgeni Hospital in empowering women. Hopefully we will have good progress in our mission of speeding up the attainment of the gender equality goal. |
