The uMgungundlovu Health District has conducted 3 TB Blitz events to create awareness of TB.

The 1st Blitz was conducted at Umgeni Municipality as part of the Women’s Day Event on 31 August 2006. This Blitz was blessed by the Presence of the Honourable Umgeni Mayor Councillor E. Dladla, Deputy Mayor Councillor Ndlovu and Municipal Management, Inkosi N. Zondi (Mpumuza), Ndunankulu S.A. Zuma, and Inkosi G. Zondi (INadi) The areas covered were Mpophomeni (House to House), Mevane (House to House), Howick Taxi Rank, Haza (House to House).
Approximately 70 houses were visited.

The 2nd Blitz was conducted on 30 September 2006 in the Umsunduzi Municipality and was blessed by the presence of the Deputy District Mayor Councillor Lukhele, Executive Committee Member Umsunduzi Municipality: Councillor Thokozani Dlamini uMsunduzi representative for Mayor Councillor Hlatshwayo, our General Manager: Dr S.S.S. Buthelezi, our Technical Advisor: Mr Londa Langa, management teams from Hospitals: Edendale-Ms Findlay and the Team, Northdale Team, Townhill Team, Doris Goodwin (Mr Ndlovu and Mrs van der Broek), Mr Makathini from Richmond Chest, District Office Management and Team, I-Teach, TB Free, District HIV/AIDS & TB Co-ordinator: Mrs Buthelezi from the Traditional Health Practitioners Council.
The areas covered included:

  • House to House: Pata, Azalea, Dambuza, Slangspruit, Plessislaer. Total number of Households visited = 170
  • Distribution of pamphlets: Freedom Square, Imbali Taxi Rank,
  • Masukwano Taxi Rank, Emgodini Taxi Rank

The 3rd Blitz was conducted on 14 October 2006 at uMsunduzi Municipality. This event was blessed by the presence of the Councillors from the visited areas Councillor S.V. Hadebe, Councillor Mchunu, Councillor Ntshangase, Hospital Management and Teams, I-Teach, Nurisng Schools and Principals of Ludumo and students from Edendale and Greys, EMS.

Our gratitude to the hospital Managers who also provided us with transport e.g. Greys, Northdale, Tonwhill, uMgeni, Edendale and EMS. This Blitz was more intense and covered the following areas House to House:
