Umzinyathi Health District - Challenges

  • High Teenage pregnancy i.e. Delivery in 10 to 19 years in facility rate of 20.3% (2017/18)
  • ART initiation for children under 15
  • Diabetes and Hypertension new initiated on treatment
  • TB/MDR
  • HIV

Strategies in place to mitigate the impact of the challenges

  • Teenage pregnancy strategies include ZAZI Camps, Adolescent, and Youth Friendly Services, mapping of high teenage pregnancy areas and focused, interventions, Pregnancy testing at household level, Community Dialogues. She Conquers harmonization programme within the District.
  • Using the DTT and DAC approach to ensure intersectoral collaboration.
  • Strengthening and expansion of the community based model approach.
  • Strengthening of the health promotion programmes so that more schools are accredited as being health promoting.
