Harry Gwala Regional Hospital
Harry Gwala Regional Hospital (formerly Edendale Hospital) is fully recognized for post-graduate teaching in all major disciplines. It is 9 km from Pietermaritzburg, strategically sited just between Plessislaer and Edendale area on Lot 89 Selby Msimang Road, on the slopes of a hill overlooking the Msunduzi River.
It is situated in uMgungundlovu District which is the second most populous district in KwaZulu-Natal Province with a total population of approximately 1.4 million.
Harry Gwala Regional Hospital was opened on 1st March 1954 with 620 beds. It has 897 beds currently. It is the 4th largest hospital in the country in terms of available beds
