Kuningi osekwenziwe wuMnyango wezeMpilo ukufeza injongo yawo yokuthi abantu baphile kahle nakade. Lapha singabala umsebenzi oqhubekayo wokuqwashisa ngobungozi begciwane lesandulela ngculazi (HIV), kanye nayo ingculazi uqobo. Izithelo zalomsebenzi, esibala kuwo ukuhlinzekwa kwabantu abaphila ne-HIV ngemishanguzo, ziyabonakala njengoba sebengaphezu kuka-1,3 million abayitholayo lapha esifundazweni saKwaZulu-Natali.

Kepha kukhona omunye umbulalazwe osihlasela buthule, nosufuna ukuba yingozi ngaphezu kwengculazi ngokwezibalo zabantu ababhuqhabhuqwa yiwo nsuku zonke: isifo sikashukela. NgoLwesibili oluzayo, mhla ka 14 ku November 2017, sizobe simdibi namazwe omhlaba wonke ukuqwashisa umphakathi ngalesi sifo njengoba kungu-World Diabetes Day. Lokhu sizokwenza ngemikhankaso kwebezindaba nangomcimbi womphakathi wokuqwashisa ngalesi sifo esifundeni sase-Majuba (Newcastle) ezinkundleni zaseSithobelumthetho. Njengengxenye yokuqwashisa umphakathi – kakhulukazi abesimame - ngesifo sikashukela, umyalezo oqavile emkhankasweni walonyaka uthi “Isifo Sikashukela Nomuntu wesiFazane.” Ucwaningo luveza ukuthi abantu besifazane abanesifo sikashukela kuyenzeka baxakeke ngokwedlulele uma kuqhathaniswa nakwabesilisa. Ongoti bathi ziwu-8% kuya ku10% izakhamuzi eziphila nesifo sikashukela lapha eNingizimu Afrika, kanti balinganiselwa ku-58 abantu abashona kuleli nsuku zonke ngenxa yesifo sikashukela. Kuthiwa kubantu abawu-415 million abanesifo sikashukela emhlabeni jikelele, oyedwa kwabathathu ugcina esenenkinga yokungaboni kahle emehlweni; kanti futhi ababili kwabathathu abanesifo sikashukela babulawa yisifo senhliziyo noma yisifo sohlangothi.

Sinjalo nje isifo sikashukela sandisa amathuba okuphathwa yisifo sofuba ngokuphindwe kathathu. Okufike kushaqise kakhulu wukuthi bayisigamu kuphela abaphethwe yilesi sifo abaziyo ukuthi banaso. Lokhu kwenza badle ukudla okuthengwa sekuphekiwe noma sekulungisiwe, nokungenamsoco. Abanye badla ukudla okunamafutha, ushukela nosawoti ngokweqile - lokhu okudala izinkinga zokungenwa yilesisifo.

Umnyango wezeMpilo KwaZulu-Natal ungaphansi kwenkulu ingcindezi ngenxa yezifo ezihlasele umphakathi. Lokhu kwenzeka ngesikhathi nesimo somnotho sitshekile, izimali zintuleka. Ngokubambisana singumphakathi singakunqanda lokhu ngokuthatha izinqumo eziphusile ukunakekela impilo yethu.

Kubalulekile ukuthi umuntu ngamunye enze izinto ezizomsiza ukugwema izifo ezifana nesikashukela, nezinye eziyimbelesela njengesomfutho ophezulu wegazi, esenhliziyo, esomdlavuza nezinye. Lezi zifo zifaka ingcindezi kwezempilo nasemnothweni wesifunda ekubeni kuyizifo ezigwemekayo.

Isifo sikashukela sibangwa, phakathi kokunye, wuhlobo lokudla olukhuphula amazinga kashukela emzimbeni, nokuholela ekukhuluphaleni ngokweqile. Abantu okunomlando wesifo sikashukela emndenini wabo; abanamafutha ngokweqile emzimbeni; nomfutho wegazi ophezulu; bonke basengcupheni yokuphathwa yisifo sikashukela. Abantu abanesifo sikashukela basengozini yokuhlaselwa yisifo senhliziyo, isifo sohlangothi kanye nezinkinga zamehlo. Kubalulekile ukuthi sonke sikukhuthalele ukuvakashela izikhungo zezempilo ukuyohlolela ushukela kanye nezinye izifo.

Izimpawu zesifo sikashukela yilezi: ukuchama njalo, ukoma kakhulu, ukwehla emzimbeni, ukukhathala, ukungaboni kahle emehlweni nemihuzuko ethatha isikhathi ukuthi iphole. Ukuluma komzimba nokuba ndikindiki kwezandla nezinyawo ngezinye zezimpawu eziqaphelekayo uma umuntu ehlaselwa yisifo sikashukela. Alikho ikhambi lesifo sikashukela. Kodwa uma sesibonakele, ungakwazi ukusilawula ngokudla imishanguzo ngendlela efanele, nokugwema izinkinga ezibangwa yiso uma uphila impilo enhle. Sivikelwa kanjani isifo sikashukela? Isifo sikashukela ungasigwema ngokudla ukudla okunempilo, ulawule isisindo, uzijwayeze ukuvocavoca umzimba, wehlise ukhwantalala (stress), ungabhemi, futhi ungabuphuzi utshwala. Gwema ukuhlala isikhathi eside ndawonye ubuka umabonakude(TV). Zinike isikhathi sokugijima okungenani kabili ngempelasonto.

Yidla izinhlobo ezahlukene zokudla. Ukudla okuyisitashi kunganyusa ushukela egazini uma kudliwa kakhulu, futhi kunjalo kuphenduka ushukela (glucose) uma sekugayekile esiswini. Izibonelo zokudla okulungile: ufishi, inkukhu, inyama ebovu enganonile namaqanda kuyasiza ukulawula amazinga kashukela ukuthi angakhuphuki kakhulu, kakhulukazi uma ukuhlanganisa nokudla okuyisitashi. Khetha inyama enganonile, ususe isikhumba senkukhu namafutha abonakalayo kwinyama ebovu phambi kokupheka. Gwema inyama enjengamasoseji, ubhekeni, amaviena, nopholoni ngoba kunamafutha nosawoti okuningi. Qaphela isilinganiso salezi zidlo. Ukudla kakhulu kungakubeka engcupheni.

Phuza kakhulu amanzi aphephile nahlanzekile, okungenani izingilazi eziwu 6 noma 8 ngosuku. Yidla izitshalo nezithelo eziningi nsukuzonke, uxube imibala eyehlukene yezitshalo nezithelo njengezidlo ezilula zasemini yasekuseni nasemini yantamba. Zingasiza ukulawula amazinga kashukela ukuthi angakhuphuki futhi angashoni phansi kakhulu. Qala khona namhlanje ukuze uphile kahle, nakade.
