St Francis Hospital is classified as a Specialised Psychiatric Hospital, situated in Mahlabathini (Mashona Reserve) under Zululand Health District.The hospital has 79 authorised beds.  Future plans for the hospital include designating it as a  District Psychiatric hospital. 

It was built in 1936 by Roman Catholic missionaries. In 1985 it was amalgamated to Nkonjeni Hospital. There were major problems which led the department to think of separation on the 2nd of August 2002.

It has a Gateway clinic within the hospital premises, 2 Mobile Teams with 43 mobile points.   Map showing location of the hospital
