Eshowe District Hospital, which was opened on 10 August 1956 by Dr. R.E Stevenson and councillor E.J.V Granthan, is situated at 40 Kangella Street , ward 11 Umlalazi Municipality under King Cetshwayo District with 400 approved beds.
The hospital was initially serving as a Regional Hospital which catered for Eshowe, Nkandla, Mtunzini, Mthonjaneni, Babanango, Mahlabathini and other places further afield. Dr. Mike Adhams was the first then superintendent of the hospital who was followed by the others till 2002 when Mrs ETB Mkhize became the first African Female CEO of the hospital.
The hospital is located in a semi urban area and for amenities there is Eshowe Mall which is 1km from the hospital, Dlinza Forest Broad walk 2,5km from the hospital which can be enjoyed by families, individuals, couples or friends can have a picnic and learn more about different kinds of birds found in Dlinza. For unwinding and enjoying the weekend there is a local shisanyama which is 4km from the hospital and 17km away there is Shaka Land where one can learn about history of King Shaka and the Zulu Heritage.
The hospital is surrounded by various good schools from pre to high schools. Eshowe area is known for diversity of sports e.g swimming, netball, soccer, bowling etc and the local schools are actively involved in sport
In 2011 the hospital received a National Award for Cleanliness from Dr. A Motsoaledi : Health Minister.
